Rill Series: Surrealist Fractal Shores

In the spirit of Lunar New Year, these blends of tidal photography, express the patterns of ebb and flow, focusing on sand “rill.” These are ubiquitous dendrite or branch formations, or nature’s fractal art, reproductions of self similarity that occur on different scales, from trees to brains and many more.

The series: Rill I, Rill II: Convergence, Rill III: Connecting, Rill IV: Grand Variation

In composition and editing, these combine nature photography with surrealism, and could be depictions of discovering extraterrestrial shores on exoplanets. Although these photographs were taken on earth (!) the emphasis of natural forces and dynamic patterns, extends to the cosmic. These fractal patterns also extend to technology and computer science. Such studies really give one pause for appreciation of unity and relationship amidst a sea of variation.

In keeping with other Studio science and science fiction related output, perhaps one day a photo shoot will take place on the moon(s), Trappist-1E or Proxima b. For now, the beauty of Earth is extensive; it’s a gem.
