Among ongoing and upcoming projects, “Digital Echoes” is an electroacoustic exploration of how humans interact with accelerating tech and reintegrating nature, as part of the “fundamental” electric field. It promises to have a lot of synth, melody, drama and even humor. That would make it in a way a combination of ‘Grand Opera’ and ‘Opera Buffa.’ I’m finding it very interesting to try and combine the archaic or traditional with the ultra modern.
“The Digital Overture,” as the titles implies, is the exposition for the entire work. I thought about waiting until the entire piece is finished, but it makes it more fun to share the journey, however it is received. This first track will be out November 24th — it’s lyrically based and there are several types of layered synth and FX. I’m performing the vocal in a sort of operatic / chant style, with some variation, including spoken word.
Because this is based on the structure of opera, I call it modern classical and then electroacoustic for the variety of instruments, including those decidedly electronic. When it comes to electronic music, it’s been a long while since I’ve focused on ambience. I’m revisiting my past at Eastman, inspired ny my present experiences from MIT.
Please stay tuned as the story unfolds – it’s always my intention alongside the joy of creation and the beauty of music, to try and share compelling concepts!
