Studio Shangri-La Lab Notes: The “Black Pearl” Explores Earth Science & Photochemistry

Now dubbed “The Black Pearl” during testing, the galvanized steel trunk I am using to create to the ‘trash can of the future’ is housing an experimental photocatalytic process — using light(s) to break down plastics in particular, to harmless and useful byproduct.

The set-up is inspired by the sun and the organism earth’s atmosphere. In that way, the Black Pearl is a form of biomimicry, that aims to speed up and enhance natural processes.

The past few days I have been running very simple tests to see how effective the first kind of light configuration is and under very simple circumstances, adding or removing one element at a time. After all, it has to be safe for the home with no unusual requirements for set-up. My next step is to measure possible emissions and then the pH of any water created.

Yesterday and today I have begun to apply for grants and other support, which involves assessing what stage the green tech is at and my vision going forward.

Ideally, the Black Pearl represents an efficient and non toxic process. In its most ideal form it produces purified water.

The implications of the proliferation of the successful type of process and product are tremendous, to the tune of substantial tons of plastic being removed from the environment, and tens to hundreds of millions of tons of subsequent CO2 removal.

Keywords: Photocatalysis, Redox, Fusion, Sublimation.

Some other big ideas = Reverse rusting, a universal crate motor for car/vehicle conversions that doesn’t require charging.

P.S. Believe in the beauty of your ideas!
