I’ve just finished a new sculptural decor object called Barque Of Pearls. A barque is an old word for a boat, and this one is made from a weathered palm sheath, painted by hand, shaped like a small vessel and carrying a spill of pearls.
It stands for timeless wisdom and fertility, a good example of what I mean by rustic modern: a found, natural material with age and texture in it, paired with something polished and a little unexpected in presentation. The pearls catch the light against the chalky paint and the rough fibers of the palm.

Barque Of Pearls is a one-of-a-kind original from 2026, made with a found palm sheath, acrylic, tempera and plastic. It measures 48 inches wide, 8 inches tall and 12 inches deep, so it works well on a long console, a low table or a deep shelf. It’s $1,600, and domestic shipping is included.
